Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) recently had the privilege of participating in the Course Uptake Workshop, held in Nairobi, Kenya from June 5th to 9th, 2023. Alongside 23 esteemed partner universities from Africa and the Indo-Pacific, the workshop took place at Strathmore Business School, Strathmore University. This significant event is supported by the Teaching Energy Access-Learning Partnership (TEA-LP) program, funded by the UK Aid. TEA-LP is part of the Transforming Energy Access platform, which aims to foster the development of energy access courses and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7).
UiTM’s delegate, representing Malaysia and ASEAN, is led by Assoc Prof. Dr Azlin Mohd Azmi (Solar Research Institute/ School of Mechanical Engineering), alongside team members Assoc Prof. Ir Dr Nofri Yenita Dahlan (Solar Research Institute/ School of Electrical Engineering) and Assoc Prof. Ir Dr Mohd Najib Mohd Hussain (School of Electrical Engineering, UiTM PP). They will develop two TEA-LP courses, focused on Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and their ecosystem, to be embedded into existing coursework Master’s programmes offered exclusively at UiTM.
The TEA-LP courses at UiTM will encompass various crucial aspects of energy access, such as technical design, policy frameworks, business models, socio-economic considerations, and environmental impact. These courses will showcase global, regional, and local solutions to empower graduates with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and competencies to contribute effectively to the sustainable delivery of clean energy.
Participating in the TEA-LP program presents UiTM with a unique opportunity to collaborate with esteemed partner universities across Africa and the Indo-Pacific. This collaboration will enable UiTM to leverage collective expertise and resources, fostering innovative approaches to address energy access challenges. Moreover, the program aims to promote knowledge exchange, research collaborations, and joint initiatives, further enhancing UiTM’s global presence and impact in the energy access domain.
UiTM extends its heartfelt appreciation to UK Aid and the University of Cape Town for their crucial support in enabling UiTM’s participation in the TEA-LP program.
