SHAH ALAM, 9th June 2023 – Today, Prof. Hamidah Mohd Saman, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the College of Engineering, UiTM warmly welcomed the presence of distinguished guests, Penolong Pesuruhjaya Muhamad Firdaus bin Musa, ‘Ketua Unit Pendidikan Masyarakat SPRM Negeri Selangor’, Tuan Ridzuan Abdul Malek, ‘Timbalan Pengarah (Pencegahan) SPRM Negeri Selangor’ and Mr. Muhammad Syafiq Kamaruzaman, ‘Ketua Seksyen Pengurusan Aduan Pengesanan dan Pengesahan dan Tadbir Urus Unit Integriti UiTM’. They attended the morning program held on this Friday, 9th June 2023 at DKC, Level 6, College of Engineering UiTM Shah Alam.
The morning program was conducted in a hybrid manner, allowing some staff of the College of Engineering to watch the proceedings via YouTube. With over 700 individuals in attendance, including those with official engagements outside the office, this recorded session provided an opportunity for participants to access the program at their convenience. The College of Engineering actively promoted this knowledge-sharing event to the entire UiTM residence, extending the invitation to all campuses and branches.
The program aimed to fully leverage the integration of noble values based on integrity, supporting high productivity, and enhancing the image of religious, national, and state institutions.
In her address, Prof. Hamidah emphasized the importance of integrity in fulfilling entrusted duties, emphasizing that UiTM’s 2025 Strategic Plan highlights the need for university members to embody certain values. These values are translated into the adoption of the ESI (Excellence, Synergy, and Integrity) and iDART (Knowledge, Discipline, Trustworthiness, Diligence, and Responsibility) principles.
The College of Engineering has embraced these aspirations, assigning the Quality and Strategy Unit to jointly plan and foster a culture of integrity among its members. When these values are instilled and ingrained within individuals, organizations can deliver efficient services, produce high-quality products, and optimize their competitiveness across industries.
The Anti-Corruption Pledge or also known as ‘Ikrar Bebas Rasuah’ (IBR) program is an initiative launched by the ‘Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia’ (SPRM) to emphasize and enhance the commitment to combat corruption, particularly in the abuse of power. It has been implemented in various ministries, departments, and agencies nationwide. The IBR program emphasizes the voluntary commitment and promises made by organizational leaders and their members to remain dedicated and accountable in their daily tasks.
Prof. Hamidah, in her speech, also offered prayers and hopes that everyone at UiTM would distance themselves from any corrupt practices throughout their tenure. Recent media reports have shed light on the arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in corrupt activities, not only among high-ranking officials but also within operational groups. Corrupt practices can tarnish the image, perception, and public trust in any organization.
During her speech, Prof. Hamidah Mohd Saman emotionally highlighted the recent acts of corruption and lack of integrity, urging attendees to reflect on their intentions and align their actions with religious teachings. She emphasized the importance of following the example of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions as role models in work and management. Prof. Hamidah reminded everyone not to prioritize wealth and power but to prioritize blessings and mercy, which lead to a happier life. Her words resonated with participants, reinforcing the College of Engineering’s commitment to fostering integrity and ethical values. By upholding these principles, individuals can make a positive impact within their organizations and society as a whole, contributing to the nation’s advancement.
The program conducted by the College of Engineering serves as a proactive measure to create awareness and strengthen the institution’s integrity values. Through collaboration and open discussions, the program seeks to foster a culture of integrity among UiTM community members, aligning with the nation’s commitment to combat corruption effectively.
As the morning program drew to a close, participants were encouraged to embrace the principles of integrity and pledge their commitment to combat corruption in their respective roles. It is hoped that the values instilled during this program will serve as a catalyst for positive change, ensuring that UiTM continues to be a beacon of integrity, excellence, and productivity in the academic landscape.
