Shah Alam, 22nd July 2023 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Slam through the College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM) has successfully organised the fourth series of Postgraduate Research Symposium 2023 (PEERS’23). PEERS is a postgraduate symposium that serves as a medium for students from the fields of Computer Science, Computer and Networking Technology, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity and Data Science to showcase their research. The event which was held at Al-Khawarizmi Complex of KPPIM was officially inaugurated by Prof. Ts Dr Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Mohd Isa, Dean Academic and International, KPPIM.
The symposium began with a keynote speech by Mr. Freddy Loo, Director of Analytic Fusionex Group. Mr. Freddy Loo spoke on the “Current AI Trends and Practice from the Industry Perspective” where he emphasised the ability of AI to empower daily life activities as well as make profits.
This is followed with a plenary session where six selected students: Muhammad Rafiuddin Raziat; Sabri Hamzah; Mohd Rizan Abdullah; Nur Shafiqah Binti Ibrahim; Aqilah Zayanah Binti Masrani and Nur Alya Maisarah Sanusi had presented their research to four panel industries: MIMOS Berhad; Bahagian Siber dan Elektromagnetik Pertahanan (BSEP) ATM; Agensi Keselamatan Siber Negara (NACSA) and Telekom Malaysia. The plenary session showcase research in the domains of mobile banking, networking administration, machine intelligence in healthcare management and data analytics.
62 final year students also had the opportunity to present their research. The poster presentation session saw the participation of over 20 industries as juries. Some of the juries are from industry giants such as Petronas Digital, Maybank, TUDM, Malaysia Airlines Berhad, DRB Hicom, MAMPU, Telekom, AirAsia, FOMEMA and many more. Their insights serve as a critical feedback on the commercialization aspect of their research.
PEERS showcase innovative research and ideas across computing fields. The involvement of industry can foster technological advancements and research breakthroughs. This strongly aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals . The objectives of the symposium also holistically align with the government’s aspiration of Malaysia Madani.
