SHAH ALAM, 19 JANUARY 2023 – The closing and awarding ceremony for Sustainable Green Campus Festival 2022 organised by UiTM Green Centre was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UiTM, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor at Anjung Seri Budiman, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam.
Among the attendees were UiTM strategic partners from several agencies: Kloth Malaysia Sdn Bhd, KDEB Waste Management, Landasan Lumayan Sdn. Bhd. (LLSB), the Department of Environment (DOE), Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) Department of Planning and Department of Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing, Malaysia Sustainable University Campus Network (MySUN), Fathopes Energy, Central Sugar Refinery Sdn. Bhd. (CSR), Perbadanan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), Avisena Specialist Hospital, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Saujana Utama.
With support from all UiTM campuses and advocated by the theme “Greener and Healthier Lifestyle”, the programme which was held for the second time took place from the 1st of November to the 31st of December 2022. The objectives of this festival were (1) to recognise contributions made by “Sustainability Warriors” who have been actively involved in sustainability movements locally and internationally, and (2) to acknowledge the campuses, faculties, responsibility centres or Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ), and strategic partners that actively supported the University Sustainability Agendain 2022.
The UiTM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Hajah Roziah Mohd Janor said that collaborations with strategic partners are timely and are in line with the University Sustainability Agenda and thus become an added value, and propel UiTM to becoming a Globally Renowned University (GRU) by 2025. “The establishment of the UiTM Green Campus Sustainability Festival by the UiTM Green Centre under the Infrastructure and Infostructure Development Office (PPII) is solid evidence of the continued commitment and support among UiTM personnel to fulfil the University Sustainability Agenda.”
“In fact, through strong and proper cooperation and commitments from various parties, UiTM has managed to move up 22 places and is ranked 128 out of 1050 universities in the UI GreenMetric (UIGM) World University Ranking 2022″, she explained. In her welcoming speech, the Director of UiTM Green Centre (UGC), Associate Professor Datin Ts. Gs. Dr. Arnis Asmat expressed her appreciation towards appointed coordinators for the UiTM Green Centre and the Expert Task Force (ETF) from various fields and expertise for their undivided commitment and support in achieving the University Sustainability Agenda.
For the 2022 Sustainable Green Campus Festival, the five categories of awards are the Sustainable Green Campus Award 2022 (Campus), Sustainable Green Campus Award 2022 (Faculty), Sustainable Green Campus Award 2022 (PTJ), Sustainability Warrior Award2022, and Green Marvel Award 2022.
During the closing ceremony, attendees were presented with a soft launch of the three initiatives to empower the University Sustainability Agenda and in keeping up with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives by the UiTM Green Centre are the Environmental Sustainability Report (ESR), Green Campus Sustainability Strategic Plan UiTM 2022-2025, Low Carbon Cities Challenge 2030 Blueprint, and an introduction to a high-impact sustainability project called “No Single Use Plastic” (SUP).
