Shah aalam, 30th October 2024 – Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB), UiTM Shah Alam, hosted a pioneering seminar titled Innovating with Technology in Applied Language Education: Exploring Synergy and Collaboration. The event which was organised by Industry, Community, Alumni & Network (ICAN) provided a unique opportunity to explore the latest trends in language education, with a special focus on emerging technologies.
The seminar featured a series of keynote sessions from esteemed experts in the field. Datin Dr. Aini Faridah Azizul Hassan opened the event with a session on “Industry 4.0 in Education: Revolutionising Language Learning.” This was followed by Muhammad Haziq Abd Rashid, who presented on the use of Unity Engine in language learning app development. Dr. Urai Salam discussed the importance of self-efficacy on teachers’ use of AI in TESL, and Dr. Venny Karolina shared her findings on the Rasch analysis of a scale for dependence on AI in English language learning.
Industry leaders also shared valuable insights during the seminar. Datin Dr. Masdiana Sulaiman, Head of Innovation at CelcomDigi, explored the integration of XR, Web 3.0 & Metaverse in education, while Fauziah Saadah Hj. Abdul Halim, a Google Educator and English Lecturer at APB, UiTM Shah Alam, discussed the role of Google Education tools in enhancing language learning.
One of the highlights of the event was the showcase of innovative language education products. Attendees were introduced to Linguaverse: The Flying Dutchman’s Chapter, a Gold Medal-winning project at I-SIIDEC 2024, developed by APB, UiTM Shah Alam. They also had the opportunity to view an educational application developed by UNTAN, Indonesia, as part of their MEd in Educational Technology program.
The seminar offered valuable insights into language education trends and fostered collaboration with experts and institutions. It emphasized knowledge sharing, innovation, and the role of technology in language education. Aligned with UiTM’s goal of providing academic programs that meet market needs, the event highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and industry. The involvement of CelcomDigi and Google Education showcased how APB integrates technology into its programs, preparing students for a digital, global world. This collaboration reflects UiTM’s commitment to producing graduates who are both academically skilled and industry-ready.
