In a captivating and environmentally conscious endeavor, 17 studios from the Department of Interior Design at the College of Built Environment, UiTM Perak, embarked on the “Revamp: Transforming Trash to Treasure – A Furniture Upcycling Adventure.” This exceptional event was not only a testament to creativity but also a profound commitment to sustainability.
In collaboration with The Green Campus UiTM Perak, REKAHUB (under the Department of Interior Design) and KEKAL, this initiative aimed to fuse innovation with ecological responsibility among the students. The premise was simple yet powerful: select 17 discarded stools from the universities’ waste furniture area and breathe new life into them. Armed with just one week, students accepted the challenge to upcycle these neglected pieces into something extraordinary.
This event was driven by two primary objectives. First, it sought to raise awareness about the significance of upcycling, emphasizing the potential to convert discarded items into functional and aesthetically appealing treasures. Second, it aimed to spotlight the remarkable creativity and design talents of the students. Upon the culmination of this week-long upcycling adventure, all the refurnished furniture pieces took center stage in the gallery of the Built Environment department.
In conclusion, “Revamp” not only unveiled the incredible potential of upcycling but also celebrated the powerful synergy of creativity and sustainability within our community. It showcased that what might be considered ‘trash’ can indeed be transformed into priceless ‘treasure’ through ingenuity and vision, whislt achieving SDG 12, PI 107 and PI 108 of UiTM.
