Professorial Lecture by Prof Dr Daud Mohamad

In a world fueled now by metaverses and multiple timelines, one would be curious as to how best to suspend preconceived notions before making life-altering decisions, afforded by the cool use of logic and mathematics. Such was the essence of the conversation held and hosted by the School of Computing and Mathematics from the College of Computing, Informatics and Media, at the Al-Khawarizmi Complex, UiTM Shah Alam recently. Hosted both online and physically, the Professorial Lecture took to stand, Professor Dr. Daud Mohamad, whose areas of concentration are in Fuzzy Mathematics and Geometric Function theory, shared his thoughts and theorem, through his presentation, “A Glimpse into the Fuzzy Theory Development” (Menelusuri Perkembangan Teori Kabur), respectively.

Currently, Professor Dr Daud Mohamad is a Professor of Mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences, at the College of Computing, Informatics and Media (previously known as Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences), UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia. He received his Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Mathematics at the University of Tasmania, Australia. Later, he completed his Master’s degree in 1993 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia followed by a Doctorate degree in the field of Complex Analysis at the University of Wales, Swansea in the year of 1999, respectively. Clearly his passion and penchant for STEM brought him to greater heights with his exploration and adoration for all things logic were evidenced by his stellar scholarly rapport.

His research specialisation includes Complex Analysis and Fuzzy theory. He authored more than 120 research papers including national and international journals, and proceedings in his area of specialisation. Professor Daud has secured more than 10 research grants accumulatively standing at RM936,000. He also had supervised and graduated 10 PhD students and 54 masters students. Moreover, Professor Daud had participated in more than 60 national and international conferences, accordingly.

The Professorial Lecture, with 300 in attendance online and physically, was chaired by Ts. Dr. Noor Latiffah Adam, in the presence of the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Haryani Haron, to which she had the esteemed pleasure to debut Professor Daud to the audience as well as highlighted the relevance of such Professorial Lecture should be an academic hallmark in sharing developments in the field as well as to inspire students and graduates to the many facets of research, perseverance and scholarship.

Throughout the session, Professor Daud narrated the origin of his research and his conceptual framing of Fuzzy theory that lead his championing his contributions in his field. Along the way, he sampled the audiences advancements of these two elements that lead him to become the leading researcher in Malaysia. In between, he managed to apply the concept of Fuzzy theory into the current world, serving justice to this presentation with relevant and much needed examples, relatable to the science and non-science communities. Comically, he ended his Professional Lecture with a landmark quote, to that of, “The Future is Fuzzy”.
