Padang Jawa, June 9, 2024 – Final year students from the College of Computing, Informatics, and Mathematics (KPPIM), Universiti Teknologi MARA Shah Alam, organized a program titled “Mini Library.” This program is a collaboration between KPPIM’s Information Systems Engineering students and Business Computing students, as well as the residents of Kampung Padang Jawa. In this initiative, students and the community work together to provide access to quality reading materials, enrich knowledge, and build a strong educational foundation.
This ‘pop-up’ mini library program started at the Balai Belia Kampung Padang Jawa involving about 29 KPPIM students and the local community of Kampung Padang Jawa. The aim of this program is to promote accessibility and openness to reading materials and also encourage sharing and recycling of reading materials. Local residents can easily access digital reading materials by scanning the QR code provided by the students. For those who prefer physical books, they can go to the bookshelf located at Balai Belia Kampung Padang Jawa.
Cik Nur Anis Idayu Mohd Nor, the supervising lecturer said “This program is a smart step in utilizing technology for education. By simply scanning the QR code, we can read various interesting and informative articles”. One of the residents of Kampung Padang Jawa also stated, “I really appreciate this initiative because it encourages a reading culture among the youth in our village. The collected used books are very useful, and access to online articles through QR codes is a very interesting idea.”
This activity is one of the initiatives aimed at empowering and serving the community through volunteer activities. Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge practically and see how the knowledge they have acquired can improve the living standards of the local community. These activities also support the aspirations of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Four and Eleven, Quality Education, and Sustainable Cities and Communities. It is also in line with the vision of Malaysia Madani.
