LaCT UiTM Pulau Pinang2019

The highly successful two-day Language, Creativity & Technology (LaCT) Camp was conducted on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2019 at the two following venues: Bilik Seminar and Ruang Legar Pusat Islam of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Pulau Pinang branch. The camp was formulated as a platform for the primary and secondary school participants, ranging from 9 to 14 years old to highlight their capabilities in delivering speech and presenting ideas while involving in the planned activities.

The participants to this camp came from various schools in the district of Seberang Perai where academic outcomes drive most of their daily activities. It provided these students with a space to interact with people from different backgrounds. This camp was the result of the relentless and unnerving effort of a team that comprised of both the PTFT and permanent English language lecturers of APB UiTMCPP.

In a highly connected and stressful world, there has been an increasing level of interest by concerned  parents on how their kids can become more authentically engaged with others and the real world. With that in mind, the LaCT Camp 2019 activities had been designed to assist youngsters to put down their gadgets, reduce their screen time, and be responsible and accountable for individual and group tasks.

Among the activities that were conducted to enhance the speech delivery and presentation skills of the participants were “Acrostic Poem”, “Vocab-ulous Race” and “Role-Play based on lyrics.” It was heartening to know that the “Vocab-ulous Race” activity was voted as the most favoured activity of the programme by the camp participants.

In essence, the LaCT Camp 2019 had allowed its participants to play in non-virtual worlds and interact with new friends and facilitators face to face in the process of sharpening their speaking and presentation skills in a relaxed atmosphere. For the duration of the LaCT Camp, the participants had momentarily let go of their grades, and above all, ‘kids got to be kids’ again!!!.
