Shah Alam, 5th August 2023 – The College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM), UiTM Shah Alam is buzzing with excitement. Nurin Miza Afiqah Andrie Dazlee, a brilliant and diligent student from the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons.) Intelligent System Engineering program, has just been honoured with the prestigious “Vice Chancellor Gold Award” during the 97th Convocation Ceremony. The award is bestowed to students with luminous and outstanding achievements in their academic studies.
Hailing from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Nurin Miza’s first exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI) is attributed to a biometric system demonstration during the Selangkah ke UiTM Expo at UiTM Dengkil. She was in awe of how machines have the ability to think. She saw a great prospect in the use of various technologies to empower users in decision making and the ability of AI to facilitate this process with better accuracy and certainty. This insatiable curiosity for AI convinced her to enrol into UiTM’s cutting-edge AI program: Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons.) Intelligent System Engineering program (CS243).
Her unwavering dedication to mastering AI fundamentals, technologies and applications sees her scoring CGPA 3.84 and Dean’s Award every semester. Public speaking is her forte as she is awarded with FSKM (Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, now KPPIM) Student Valedictorian for Public Speaking Category and Best Speaker for Asia Youth Speakup Forum in the year 2021. Additionally, Nurin Miza was also the 1st runner-up for the FSKM Toastmasters Public Speaking Competition 2021. Winning the Top 10 Young Talent Award in MonStar Awards Asia 2020 further cemented her status as a stellar student with high calibre.
Nurin Miza also left a significant mark through her Final Year Project (FYP) entitled Object Detection for Autonomous Vehicles Using Sensor-based Technology with YOLO Algorithm, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr Shuzlina Abdul Rahman. Her FYP was recognised with Top 5 Innovative FYP Project for the UiTM-IEEE FYP Awards 2021. Additionally, she won Gold and Special Merit Award at 7th place in the 3-minutes Thesis category for the Virtual Innovation Competition 2021 by UiTM Kelantan.
Nurin’s brilliance continues beyond the boundaries of the university’s classroom door. She was also one of the 10 finalists for the Huawei Seeds for the Future 2020 program where she was given the opportunity to experience the cross-cultural Huawei’s business operations. Appointed as one of the 2021 Maybank Student Ambassador (#Mbassador) – out of over 600+ applicants – Nurin Miza was inspired and empowered to bridge the youth with Maybank and the banking/finance industry. As an #Mbassador, Nurin Miza coordinated the organization of Maybank Day X UiTM that sees over 1000 participants. Moreover, she was part of the winning multimedia team in the MAE apps campaign competition. It is a sweet success being able to showcase her talent in the financial industry as it emulates the passion shared with her father, En. Andrie Dazlee Abdullah, a banking officer. Whereas her nurturing nature to see others succeed can be attributed to her mother, Pn. Marziatun Abdul Karim, a school teacher.
The academicians from KPPIM, particularly from the CS243 programme, often speak highly about Nurin Miza. Assoc. Prof. Dr Shuzlina Abdul Rahman, who was Nurin Miza’s FYP supervisor remarked on her persistence to undertake challenging tasks with a positive can-do attitude and always delivering in a timely manner. Dr Shamimi Abdul Halim who served as Nurin Miza’s academic advisor is awed with her impeccable work ethics and her ability to show compassion and seek opportunities to make others feel inclusive. Even though Nurin Miza left the university for her career growth almost two years ago, her exemplary attitude and positive mindset is still widely praised to this very day.
Nurin Miza was part of the batch which was affected with the sudden change of university’s teaching and learning approach due the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite finding herself having to study from home for most of her undergraduate studies (2 years from the 3 ½ year programme), her remarkable grasp of AI concepts, coupled with her analytical thinking and creative problem-solving, has set her on a trajectory for greatness. She did not only excel academically but also contributed to AI-related discussions, seminars, and workshops on campus. One such avenue was Beyond AI Bootcamp 2021 at UiTM. In addition to serving as a facilitator for the 3-day AI Introduction Bootcamp, Nurin Miza coordinated the social media design and marketing strategy converting into over 400 participants enrolling into the program across Malaysia.
At present, Nurin Miza is working on various software engineering and DevOps projects as a System Infrastructure Engineer at Intel Technology. Her AI prowess is applied into various cross-collaborative projects which includes MLOPS and ChatOps. She is also certified in Microsoft Azure Fundamentals and AWS Cloud Solutions Architect Associate. Nurin Miza is also currently part of the Growth Committee for Monsta Community by Gomonsta Asia where she spearheads a monthly Chat-In session enabling youth to have a discourse on challenges of adulthood within a safe space. Nurin Miza also uses the newsletters and Instagram channel as avenues of inspiration for positivity and growth. Looking ahead, she envisions a future where AI can be harnessed to address wellbeing, and she’s determined to lead the change.
In an exclusive interview, Nurin Miza shared her mantra for success: “I hope to be surrounded with the people I love. I love whatever I do and always feel motivated to give back with love”. For those aspiring to explore into AI, Nurin strongly encourages to do so, “The future of AI is worth looking into, as scary as it may seem, it is our responsibility to ensure that this technology is used ethically”.
Nurin Miza Afiqah Andrie Dazlee’s success today is no small feat. Her diligence and commitment for excellence have made her a true standout among her peers. This achievement is a testament to UiTM’s and KPPIM’s commitment to nurturing stellar minds and exceptional talent.
