PUNCAK ALAM – The International Innovation, Invention, and Creation Exhibition (IIICE) 2024 returns this year, centered around the theme of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to showcase participants’ innovative ideas. This annual event is organized by student associations under the Faculty of Health Sciences, with the Nursing Student Association (NUSA) taking the lead for this year’s edition. The program aims to showcase innovative ideas from students, discover new talents in STEAM-based innovation, and nurture minds capable of creating impactful products. It seeks to position UiTM as a leader in creative innovation, both nationally and internationally, while promoting collaboration and instilling moral values in students, in line with UiTM’s philosophy.
As in the previous year, IIICE 2024 was conducted virtually via YouTube, commencing in May 2024 and officially concluding on October 17, 2024, with a closing ceremony inaugurated by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, UiTM Selangor Branch, Puncak Alam Campus. “As the world transitions into the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, fields such as engineering, science, and technology are becoming increasingly complex and demanding. This program provides valuable opportunities for individuals across all age groups to exchange knowledge and explore innovative ideas, fostering a culture of learning and creativity,” stated the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, UiTM Puncak Alam Campus.
This year’s theme for the virtual innovation competition successfully showcased the remarkable talents of 42 groups, consisting of 187 participants from a wide range of schools, pre-university programs, and academic institutions, as they presented their most innovative ideas. IIICE 2024 provided a vibrant platform for outstanding students and professionals to exhibit and develop their cutting-edge concepts, fostering a spirit of creativity and innovation. This initiative not only underscored the ingenuity of its participants but also supported UiTM’s vision to establish itself as a research-driven university, emphasizing innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence at both national and international levels.
The competition evaluated participants across four categories: Junior Inventor (for primary and secondary school students), Young Inventor (for vocational, polytechnic, and matriculation students), Higher Learning Institution (for diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate students), and Professional Inventor (for academicians, researchers, and industry players). Each category recognized outstanding contributions by presenting Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.
Attractive prizes were offered for IIICE 2024, including RM300 and an e-certificate for both the Best Presentation Award and the Most Liked Video Award, along with RM1000 and an e-certificate for the prestigious Diamond Award (Best of the Best Project). This year’s Diamond Award was claimed by Neoterist N-Tristand: The Effectiveness and Efficiency of Surgical Sponge Counting System in Operation Theatre, a project from HASA Hospital and the Faculty of Health Sciences, UiTM Selangor Branch, which stood out for its innovation and impactful contribution.
The Best Presentation Award was awarded to Apong Eco-Langko: Developing Commercial Sustainable Gula Apong Langko Outlet, an innovative project from the Centre of Built Environment, Centre of Applied Sciences, and the Faculty of Business Management, UiTM Sarawak. The Most Liked Video Award went to Pneumonia Sensor, a collaborative effort involving the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, School of Computer Science, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Dentistry, UiTM Selangor Branch. This award was decided based on audience engagement on the IIICE 2024 Official YouTube Channel.
It is hoped that IIICE 2024 will nurture the creative thinking abilities of students at various levels, with a focus on STEAM as the foundation for innovation and the translation of theoretical knowledge into high-quality products. Furthermore, these innovation initiatives are crucial in enhancing the overall quality of innovation in UiTM’s development. A well-established university can serve as a platform to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent but also skilled in the realms of science and technology. Encouraging innovation contributes to building a society capable of offering valuable ideas and solutions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to the nation.
