Seri Iskandar, 12th June 2024 –Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia, recently held the “International Collaborative Teaching Webinar: Application of Remote Sensing.” This significant event, organized by the Programme Surveying Science and Geomatics, College of Built Environment at UiTM, was specifically designed for the Fundamental of Remote Sensing (GST275) course in the Diploma in Geospatial Technology academic program. The webinar took place via Zoom on June 12, 2024, at 3 pm (MYT), fostering an academic-industry collaboration.
The webinar featured three distinguished speakers who brought diverse perspectives and expertise to the discussion. The event was moderated by Sr. Gs. Ts. Dr. Izrahayu Che Hashim. Puan Sarah Hanim Binti Samsudin, a researcher from TNB Research Sdn. Bhd., delivered an insightful presentation on the “Application of Remote Sensing in the Energy Industry.” Her session highlighted the significant impact of remote sensing technology on energy sector advancements and operational efficiencies.
Dr. Nety Nurda, Plt. Kasubdit-Analis Kebijakan Ahli Muda Direktorat Pengkajian Hankam dan Geografi Lemhannas RI (Sub Koordinator) and a lecturer at Universitas Dian Nusantara, discussed the “Implementation of Remote Sensing and GIS in Prediction and Analysis of Forest Productivity and Carbon for Policy Government of Indonesia.” Her presentation emphasized the critical role of remote sensing and GIS in environmental policy-making and forest management.
Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Habibie, from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Republic of Indonesia (RI), presented on “Harnessing AI, GIS, Remote Sensing, and IoT for Land Suitability Analysis in Indonesia.” His talk showcased the integration of advanced technologies to enhance land use planning and agricultural productivity.
The Q&A session allowed students to engage directly with the guest speakers, gaining valuable insights and knowledge from industry experts. This interactive segment was a highlight of the webinar, providing a platform for students to clarify doubts and deepen their understanding of remote sensing applications.
This webinar successfully provided in-depth exposure and knowledge on the application of remote sensing across various industries, from energy to land suitability analysis. The collaboration between academia and industry is crucial in strengthening relationships and knowledge sharing for mutual benefit.
The implementation of the Collaborative Teaching Initiative at UiTM, especially through engaging industry and international guest speakers, offers substantial benefits for students.
