Shah Alam, 26 October 2024 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, through the College of Computing, Informatics, and Mathematics (KPPIM) recently hosted a successful international webinar titled “IT Ethical Issues: Perspective and Reality”. The event, part of the Service Learning Malaysia University for Society (SULAM) program, attracted over 130 virtual participants via Google Meet and YouTube.
The webinar began with Prof. Ts Dr. Hj. Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Mohd Isa, Dean of Academic and International, KPPIM delivering an opening remark. He emphasized the pressing need to address IT ethical issues in our rapidly evolving digital landscape in his opening address. He also encouraged young scholars to actively engage with the ethical implications of emerging technologies such as AI, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
The webinar featured insightful presentations from UiTM undergraduates. Nur Nadhirah Peer Mohamed’s session on “Cybercrime and Ethical Hacking” shed light on the critical role of ethical hacking in identifying security vulnerabilities while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines. Mohammad Fikri Izzan Mohd Amin explored “The Impact of AI on Student Creativity and Originality”, while Siti Aishah Ahmad’s presentation with the topic “Social Media Creator: Shaping Reality or Selling Illusions” delved into the role of social media creators in shaping perceptions of reality.
The webinar, directed by Mr. Muhammad Zarif Aiman Zahiyan under the guidance of Ts. Dr. Surya Sumarni Hussein, also featured distinguished guests from JP College of Engineering (JPCoE), Tamil Nadu, Dr. M. Rajkumar, Principal of JPCoE, and Dr. P. Nancy, Head of the Department of Computer Science, Engineering.
The webinar received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, who praised its clarity, relevance, and thought-provoking content. Many attendees expressed a newfound interest in exploring the ethical dimensions of AI and cybercrime. The session on ethical hacking was particularly commended for its engaging and informative approach.
