Padang Jawa, 6 June 2024 – Final year students from Bachelor of Information Science (Hons.) Library Management, College of Computing, Informatics and Mathematics (KPPIM), University Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Perdana campus, in collaboration with Sekolah Rendah Agama Padang Jawa, Klang, has successfully organized a program called “DAHLIA@Padang Jawa : Kembara Ilmu dan Minggu Literasi Maklumat dan Media Kanak – Kanak’‘. This program is part of the Service Learning Malaysia-University for Society (SULAM) Initiative, for the “Digitalisasi dan Amalan Lestari, Inovatif dan Adaptif” (DAHLIA) project.
The program involved a total of 126 Year 4 students at Sekolah Rendah Agama Padang Jawa, Klang. The objective was to expose and enhance primary school students to information-seeking skills and promote the effective use of mass media.
The program began with a “Knowledge Sharing” session led by three KPPIM students. This was followed by the “Digital Scavenger Hunt” game, challenging participants to find answers using reliable sources and references. The “Media Literacy Board Game” was also conducted, where students and their group members were given pawns to represent their group and dice with questions that participants needed to answer. Additionally, “Fasi Say” activities were included as fun interval activities throughout the event.
SULAM 2024 programme is one of the initiatives aimed at empowering and serving the community through volunteer activities. Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge practically and discover how the knowledge they have acquired can also improve the living standards of the local community. The activities also support the aspirations of Fourth and Eleventh Sustainable Development Goals, which are Quality Education and Sustainable Cities and Communities. It is also in line with the visions of Malaysia Madani. This program was also attended by Puan Anida binti Ahamad, the school’s Senior Teacher 1, Madam Siti Nurul Maryam Abdullah as UiTM’s accompanying lecturer, as well as four teachers from the classes involved.
