Assoc. Prof. Dr.-Ing Masria Mustafa and Mrs. Zanariah Abd. Rahman from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, UiTM had visited Vienna, Austria for a research stay as part of ASEA UNINET Project, entitled “Smart Transportation Mobility: State of Art in ASEAN and Austria” from February 23 – March 10, 2019.

They were hosted by Ao.Univ.Prof. Mag. Dr. Günter Emberger and his team at the Research Center of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering, Vienna University of Technology. Together with them was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sorawit Narupiti from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.

Over the two weeks of workshop, there were a wide range of mobility issues discussed and debated in the sessions including mobility issue at train station which help the delegates from UiTM to accomplish the objectives of their Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) grant.

Highlights included an excursion through the City of Vienna, a visit to the new urban development project in Seestadt, a technical visit to OBB, the Austrian Federal Railways and an excursion to explore a long distance train services from Vienna, Austria to Bratislava, Slovakia.

After that, Vienna University of Technology had organized a public lecture and Assoc. Prof. Dr.-Ing Masria Mustafa was appointed as a guest lecturer to deliver the lecture. Many participants came and benefited from the lecture entitled “Mobility in Malaysia and its Challenge of Today” as the topic covers on the challenges of Malaysia in overall usage of public transportation, the plan in first-last mile connectivity, shifting from auto to non-motorized transport and in policies implementations.

Besides, the UiTM delegates were given the opportunity to meet and have insightful discussions with Miss Niina Novak, Assistant to the Executive Board & Senior Project Manager at ASEA-UNINET, Prof. DI Dr. Ronald Blab, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Vienna University of Technology and Dato’ Ganeson Sivagurunathan, the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations in Vienna.
