9 July 2024 – Sustainability in higher education has gained increasing attention worldwide, with universities playing a pivotal role in promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. On 9 July 2024, a delegation from UiTM Perak Branch visited Thammasat University to exchange knowledge and best practices in implementing green campus initiatives. This visit was organized by the Green Campus Committee of UiTM Perak and the Tier 4 UiTM Research Group, Green Safe Cities (GreSafe). The primary objectives of the benchmarking visit were to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices in green campus and gresafe cities initiatives between UiTM Perak Branch and Thammasat University; to explore potential areas for collaboration in sustainability projects and research; and to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of existing green initiatives at both institutions and identify opportunities for improvement.
Associate Professor Dr. Nur Azfahani Ahmad, Associate Professor Ts Dr. Siti Rasidah Md Sakip, Associate Professor Dr. Thuraiya Mohd & Associate Professor Ts Dr Sallehan Ismail represented UiTM Perak in the interactive discussion sessions with Associate Professor Asan Suwanarit, the Dean of Faculty Architecture and Planning at Thammasat University. The delegation from UiTM Perak Branch participated in comprehensive tours of Thammasat University’s green facilities that provided first-hand insights into the practical implementation of green initiatives. The benchmarking visit enriched the knowledge and skills of the participants and enable the delegation an idea to implement advanced sustainability practices at UiTM Perak. The exchange of ideas and experiences fostered a deeper understanding of effective strategies for creating sustainable campuses. The benchmarking visit by the delegation from UiTM Perak Branch to Thammasat University on 9 July 2024 underscores the importance of international collaboration in advancing environmental stewardship and creating greener, safer campuses. This benchmarking visit achieves PI023 regarding the number of collaborations with agencies, industry, NGOs, and higher education institutions (both local and international), PI135 ‘Keceriaan Kampus’ project, and SDG Goal 11 for sustainable cities and communities.
