Padang Jawa, June 9, 2024 – College of Computing, Informatics, and Mathematics (KPPIM) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam have organized a “Smart Business” program in Padang Jawa, Shah Alam. Handled by KPPIM’s final year students, the program was a collaboration between the students and the residents of Kampung Padang Jawa as part of the Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society (SULAM) initiative.
The program began with an awareness briefing session on smart business titled “Benefits of Smart Business for the Community,” followed by a discussion on “Smart Business Strategies and Techniques.”, involving around 15 participants from the Kampung Padang Jawa community. The program proceeded with the Basic Computer Learning session which focused on beginner-level activities designed to assist participants with no computing experience to learn the basics of using computers and the internet. In the session, participants were taught the basic computing components as well as how to use the web browsers (Google, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge applications) and how to create email accounts.
Subsequently, intermediate-level activities; a Guide to Selling on Shopee; were conducted where participants were taught on how to create a seller account on Shopee. Participants were exposed to the steps for registering a Seller account, using application features, and managing products and orders. Through this session, participants were introduced to techniques for uploading products, stock management, and proper packaging methods to enhance the effectiveness of online businesses.
The “Smart Business” program, guided by Dr. Azhar Abd Aziz, aligns with Sustainable Development Goal Eight: Decent Work and Economic Growth. The program aims to enhance the efficiency and business skills of local entrepreneurs, fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth. By providing knowledge and training on technology and business strategies, the program empowers participants to strengthen their businesses and increase their income. Indirectly, this empowers individuals and contributes to long-term economic stability, especially in Padang Jawa.
