#FlowToGlow: Knowledge Transfer Menstruation Health Education with SMKA Sharifah Rodziah Melaka

In a groundbreaking initiative, six dedicated fifth-semester students from the Responsible Marketing course (MKT622) at Universiti Teknologi Mara, Cawangan Melaka, Kampus Bandaraya Melaka undertook the SoCCoM 4.0 campaign, titled #FlowToGlow: A Guide On Menstruation Health. The team members which are Siti Asya Maszlieza, Farhan Aidel, Nuraliah, Nur Alia Khairani, Nur Athirah Izzati, and Azmal Rizal Akmal, collaborated under the guidance of their advisor, Pn. Aemillyawaty Binti Abas.

The campaign aimed to increase individuals that are well-informed about menstruation education and to develop a change of behaviour towards adopting hygienic practices among Form One students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sharifah Rodziah. To achieve this, the team orchestrated a series of events over four days, implementing a holistic approach to educate and engage students, aligned with SGD Goal 3 to achieve good health and well being for community.

The objectives of the campaign were clear which are to educate and raise awareness about menstrual hygiene from a medical perspective, to provide a comprehensive guide on the correct usage of menstrual products, to challenge social norms surrounding menstruation and normalize discussions and to instigate a positive change in students’ behaviours towards maintaining menstrual hygiene.

The execution of the campaign unfolded seamlessly across 5 weeks. On 1st week where it involve 4 days execution that involve with ice-breaking and student registration and a campaign awareness drive were conducted, women reproduction talk by Dr. Nurrul, a certified gynaecologist, followed by an explorace with four informative stations focusing on feminine hygiene, health concerns and myths, period cycle, and feminine products. Week 3 to 4 culminated in a prize ceremony after the Explorace, where students were handed evaluation forms to assess changes in their behaviour post-campaign. Final week involved with recap and awarding incentive of the “Glowest Award” to the student who diligently maintained a logbook throughout the campaign.

The results of the campaign were promising, with an evident increase in menstrual education awareness and positive shifts in hygiene practices among the students. The team’s dedication and strategic planning ensured the campaign’s success.

Reflecting on their efforts, each team member acknowledged the valuable experience gained in executing such a multifaceted campaign. Beyond the academic context, the team emphasized the practical knowledge acquired about menstruation health, applicable in their daily lives.

#FlowToGlow stands as a testament to the potential impact of student-led initiatives in fostering awareness and initiating positive behavioural changes in crucial aspects of health education.
