Seri Iskandar, 24 July 2024 — The final-year students of the Diploma in Landscape Architecture (AP148) had the privilege to showcase their creative capacities in delivering Independent Landscape Design Proposal at the much-anticipated Annual Exhibition and External Review, held on 24th July 2024 at the Landscape Architecture Studio, Department of Built Environment Studies & Technology. The event, a highlight in the academic calendar, brought together students, faculty, industry professionals, and landscape enthusiasts to celebrate design initiatives, creativity, and hard work.
The exhibition featured an impressive array of projects from 58 final-year students from the Independent Landscape Design Studio (LDA350), UiTM Seri Iskandar. Each project was a testament to the students’ dedication, creativity, and the skills they have honed during their 3 years of enrolment at the institution. The studio, a dynamic and collaborative environment, was expertly guided by four Studio Masters, each designated to mentor one of the four groups of students. These practices not only allowed for a more personalized approach to teaching and supervision but also fostered a deeper level of engagement between students and their studio masters.
In addition to the Exhibition, the event also included an External Review where four esteemed professionals from the industry evaluated the students’ work. The panel of reviewers, comprised of LAr Fong Jeng Jong (Landscape Architect from Hijau Biru Landscape), Dr Mohd Zahid Mohd Salleh (Senior Lecturer UiTM Puncak Alam), Pn Nur Izani Azlan and En Ahmad Faizal Baharom (both from Ipoh Citi Council-MBI), has provided invaluable feedback to the students, offering insights to help the transition from academic life to professional careers.
Speaking at the event, the Programme Coordinator of AP148, LAr Dr Norizan Mt Akhir, expressed pride in the students’ achievements, stating, “This exhibition is not just a showcase of our student’s work, but also a reflection of the exceptional education and competency they have received during the studies. We strongly believe that these graduating students will make significant contributions to the respective industries.”
The ultimate ceremony in this event was acknowledged by the Award-giving Ceremony to the selected seven most outstanding students based on their achievements, designs, and performances throughout the semester. The award achiever was given a certificate, and cash prizes together with several gifts as the rewards. On the other hand, students also had the opportunity to network with the panels and other industry professionals in attendance, gaining insights and establishing connections that could prove beneficial as they enter the real market.
The exhibition was well-received by attendees, with many praising the high standard of work on display. “The level of creativity and professionalism exhibited by these students is truly remarkable,” said LAr Fong Jeng Jong, a visiting professional. “It’s rather convincing that these students have bright potential in pursuing studies or joining the industries.”
The Independent Landscape Design Exhibition and External Review is a most-awaited event for final-year students, serving as both a culmination of their academic efforts and a stepping stone into the professional world. As the event concluded, the students left with not only valuable feedback but also a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the future.
