Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine UiTM had organized World Mental Health Day 2019 celebration in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sungai Buloh Campus on 28th November 2019. This 1-day program had run successfully according to this year’s theme on “Suicide Prevention”.
The objective of the program was to raise awareness of mental health issues faced by young adults, students and university staffs and to educate them on the various strategies to seek help for challenges they face.
The program was launched by Datin Vivy Yusof, an eminent entrepreneur who is also member of UiTM Board of Directors in the presence of Prof. Dr Mohd Zamrin Dimon, Dean of Faculty of Medicine UiTM.
During the event, Department of Psychiatry also launched ‘Skuad Peduli Minda’, a mental health awareness squad comprised of a group of psychiatrists and psychologists. The squad is an innovative approach by the department which aims to promote mental health awareness and conduct training to empower university students and staffs with various strategies to face mental health challenges.
Apart from that, there were flash talks on various topics on suicide prevention and drug abuse as well as mindfulness therapy and spiritual aspects of mental health. There were also booths for mental health screening, IQ and mental games and mental health promotions and awareness by psychiatrists and psychologists, National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) and Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (MIASA). The event was well received and attended by students and staffs of the faculty and general public.
