May 27-29, 2024: A group of 15 final-year students from the Civil Engineering Studies, College of Engineering (KPK), UiTM, Shah Alam, organized an “Education and Awareness Programme for Water Resource Conservation and Preservation” for 36 Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Tembeling (SKUT), Jerantut Pahang, years 3 through 6.There are three modules in the program that deal with water conservation efforts, including employing bioindicators to monitor the quality of river water, treating water using filtration devices, and turning leftover cooking oil into soap to cut down on pollution. In order to translate their understanding, students use CANVA as part of their digital learning experience.
In order to exchange knowledge about water resource management in Malaysia and water conservation initiatives carried out by UiTM students, international webinars have also been successfully held in cooperation with the D8 International Universities of Iran and the Malaysia Water Association (MWA) on May 28, 2024, from 8 to 10 p.m. Dr. Ir. Ts. Hj. Mohmad Asari Daud, President of the Malaysia Water Association (MWA), was the special guest speaker for the topic entitled, “Freshwater Management and Conservation in Malaysia.”. The webinar had fifty-eight participants from both Malaysia and overseas. Participants from Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Iran were among them.
This collaboration between schools, universities, and the private sector has produced a tremendous impact in terms of students’ acceptance, understanding, and appreciation of science and the environment. Exposure to this learning method increases students’ inquiry and helps add new knowledge.
