Perak, 30th June 2024 – In conjunction with the ‘Program Kayuhan Kapsul 25 Tahun UiTM Rentas Cawangan’, the Green Campus of UiTM Perak together with Kelab Kampus Lestari (KEKAL) is accountable for conducting the Tree Planting @ Campus event scheduled on the 30th June 2024. This initiative aligns with the university’s ongoing efforts to foster a greener, more environmentally friendly campus and represents a commendable step towards sustainability.
The event begins at 3.00 pm upon the arrival of the UiTM Kayuhan Kapsul Riders, launched by the UiTM Perak Rector, PM Dr. Nur Hisham Ibrahim. There are 25 saplings planted at the Pusat Mahasiswa areas (PUMA) symbolizing the UiTM 25th Anniversary. These saplings consist of a mix of native species such as the Malaysia National Tree; Intsia palembanica (Merbau), Xerospermum noronhianum (Rambutan pacat), and Pometia pinnata (Kasai). These saplings were sponsored by the Pulau Banding Foundation (PBF) and were specially chosen for their adaptability and benefits to local biodiversity. All participants worked in groups, guided by Green Campus representatives who shared insights on proper planting techniques and the ecological significance of different tree species.
Led by the Green Campus Coordinator, PM Dr. Nur Azfahani Ahmad, highlighted the collaborative effort involved in organizing the event. “This tree planting initiative is a testament to what we can achieve when staff, students, faculty, and UiTM Kayuhan Kapsul riders unite for a common purpose. It’s inspiring to see so many people devoted to making the event a success and cultivating a greener campus.”
The Tree Planting @ campus is ranged with Sustainability Development Goals; SDG 7, 9, 11, and University PI 135 which are beneficial in combatting climate change, enlightening energy efficiency, recycling waste, besides promoting environmental awareness and beautification. In line with the university’s aims to achieve UI Green Metrics International rankings, events like these are vital milestones in that fortitude.
As the day concluded, the campus was not only greener but also filled with a renewed sense of lifeforce and togetherness. The success of the Tree Planting @ campus event serves as a reminder of the collective impact of collaborative actions and the importance of continued efforts towards a sustainable future.
