10 DECEMBER – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) had organized community service “CLEARWATER, BEACH CLEAN UP”, which is part of the course requirement of Operation Management in Construction (CMA493). The community service was held at Pantai Bagan Lalang, Selangor this Saturday. The community service initiative benefitted from the participation of 300 students consist of students from programme AP246 – BSc (Hons) Construction Management, EC220 – Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Civil and EM220 – Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical. It further strengthened the ideology of creating awareness among students about environmental preservation, especially in coastal areas to accelerate the transition to a greener future.
Following the trash collection, the community service also received public participation from local citizens and all waste was collected and pile up at a designated area for pick up with collaboration from Majlis Perbandaran Sepang for the waste pick up to divert them away from oceans. While the trash collection activity is ongoing, a survey on the public’s perception of beach cleaning activities was conducted amongst the citizen of Bagan Lalang. Based on the survey, about 80% out of 114 respondents agreed that frequent beach cleaning activities can create a clean, cheerful & safe beach environment. 103 respondents also concur to the idea of the activity can increase public awareness in preserving & conserving the beach environment. The local community of Bagan Lalang expressed outstanding level of satisfaction on the outcome of this activity and would be delighted to participate in other similar activity in the future. This community service event is successful with positive feedback from the local community.
