NEGERI SEMBILAN, 12th May 2023 – The School of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering participated in a program called “Civil Engineering Awareness in School” at Sekolah Menengah Teknik Tuanku Jaafar in Negeri Sembilan. This program was conducted under the course code Engineering in Society (ECC589) ‘SULAM’ and brought together 89 students from the civil engineering course in form five, 20 students from UiTM, four Civil Engineering lecturers, and three industry collaborators to make it a success. The program began with a talk on Geotech by Dr. Noraida Mohd Saim, a senior lecturer of UiTM, and was followed by another talk on Solid Waste by Ts Sahhir Kunju Bin Abdul Karim from SWCorp. The program continued with a Tower Competition where students built towers made out of sticks, and the winners were chosen based on strength, structure, and aesthetic view. Puan Norazuin Jawari from Project Executive (C&S), was invited to serve as a jury for the competition. Participating in a tower competition provided a platform for the students to improve their problem-solving, critical thinking, and engineering skills. Since it is a team event, it also promotes teamwork, collaboration, and communication among students. From the event the form five students showed creativity and innovative thinking.
Several lecturers were involved in the “Civil Engineering Awareness in School” program at Sekolah Menengah Teknik Tuanku Jaafar in Negeri Sembilan, including Dr. Sharifah Abdullah, Dr. Hazrina Mansor, Nursafarina Ahmad, and Noraida Mohd Saim.
