Bridging Cultures, Building Synergy: UiTM-NNUSE Cultural Summer Programme 2024

Shah Alam, 3rd December 2024 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), through Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB), successfully hosted the UiTM-NNUSE Cultural Summer Programme from October 15 to 19, 2024, . This vibrant event brought together 37 students and 4 accompanying lecturers from Nanjing Normal University of Special Education (NNUSE), China, in an enriching cultural and educational exchange.

The programme was designed to offer a unique cross-cultural experience, focusing on enhancing English language proficiency and providing an immersive introduction to Malaysian culture. Participants engaged in various interactive activities, including learning traditional Malaysian dances such as zapin and joget, trying on traditional attire like baju kurung, as well as exploring local customs and speech patterns. These experiences gave the NNUSE participants a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s multicultural heritage.

This programme reflects one of UiTM’s core values — Synergy, which is about working together seamlessly for greater impact. The collaboration between UiTM and NNUSE created a strong partnership that enhanced the educational experience and fostered cross-cultural understanding and unity.

The active participation of APB’s Linguapreneur Unit, led by Dr. Nur Maizura Lin, and the dedicated efforts of Programme Director Mr. Amir Lukman Abd Rahman, along with committee members and student volunteers, highlighted the strength of teamwork. By collaborating across different fields and cultures, the programme provided a space for students from both countries to exchange knowledge and ideas, enriching the learning experience and building global connections.

The UiTM-NNUSE Cultural Summer Programme showcased UiTM’s commitment to building international partnerships that go beyond borders. It demonstrated how effective collaboration can create positive outcomes for both the academic community and society. By fostering cultural appreciation and improving language skills, the programme helps students become more globally aware, preparing them to succeed in diverse environments and contribute positively to the world.
