Architecture Students Conduct Case Study at Ipoh’s Stadium Indera Mulia

Ipoh, May 16, 2024 – Final-year architecture students from the Programme of Architecture, College of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Perak Branch, Seri Iskandar Campus, visited Ipoh to study the renowned Stadium Indera Mulia at Kompleks Sukan Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh. The trip, organized by Ts. Izzat Anuar, aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the design and functionality of the indoor sports arena.

The visit commenced with a warm welcome by Mr. Muhammad Amri Abdul Rashid from the Corporate Communications and Public Complaints Division and continued with an informative tour hosted by the Sports and Facilities Division, led by Assistant Director of Community, Ms. Nur Salihah Mohd Nasri of Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI). The MBI team provided an in-depth look into the stadium’s features.

Stadium Indera Mulia, with its 3,000 permanent seats and capacity to accommodate 1,000 more on the court, served as a perfect case study. The students explored the various sports facilities consisting of tournament-grade flooring, accommodating various national and state competition events such as futsal, sepak takraw, badminton netball, indoor hockey and others.

Beyond sports, the stadium’s versatility extends to hosting the Perak royals for Eid celebrations, featuring a VVIP holding room. This multifunctionality provided valuable insights into the practical challenges and solutions in architectural design.

The tour included detailed explanations of each area, enhancing the student’s understanding of the design and operational aspects of such a facility. This hands-on experience underscored the importance of site visits and case studies in their curriculum, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.

As the final trip of the semester, the visit to Stadium Indera Mulia was a significant learning opportunity. The students expressed their appreciation for the chance to witness their studies come to life and are eager for future academic or case study trips.

A total of 78 students and 8 lecturers attended the visit. Along with Ts. Izzat Anuar, the lecturers included are Dr. Mayamin Yuhaniz, Amirul Amin Hj. Ismail, Noor Ainsyah Zulkifli, Farah Hanna Ahmad Fuad, Muhammad Faris Arman, Aman Faizal Khalili, and Mohd Faiz Mohd Yusoff.
