SHAH ALAM, 19th June 2023 – UiTM’s Akademi Pengajian Bahasa recently conducted a successful curriculum review for its LG240 & LG243 programmes, which are homegrown language programmes. The event was held at the Auditorium of Akademi Pengajian Bahasa in Shah Alam and lasted for five days, from May 8th to May 12th, 2023. The review involved all resource persons of the LG240 & 243 programmes and was conducted by external examiner Professor Antony John Kunnan, who is the Principal Assessment Scientist at Duolingo Inc. and a Senior Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University.
During the review, Professor Kunnan provided valuable insights and recommendations to enhance the programmes. One of his key suggestions was the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools across the subjects taught in the programmes. This will help keep the programmes updated and relevant to the current trends in the field, and will enhance the quality of language education at UiTM. To support the integration of AI tools, the examiner proposed finding support to use a server and securing subscriptions to AI tools that need payment. Faculty and students will be encouraged to use AI tools so that they become familiar with the limitations and biases of such tools.
UiTM highly appreciates Professor Kunnan’s insights and the practical and feasible recommendations he provided. The institution is committed to implementing these suggestions in the near future, with the aim of providing high-quality language education that prepares students for the future. The closing ceremony of the event was held at the Auditorium of Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, where Professor Kunnan was invited to celebrate Majlis Hari Raya APB as a gesture of appreciation for his valuable insights.
Overall, the curriculum review for the LG240 & LG243 programmes was an important event for UiTM. The institution is committed to providing high-quality language education, and the recommendations made by Professor Kunnan will assist the institution in achieving this goal. The insights and recommendations provided during the event will undoubtedly help UiTM to enhance the quality of language education and keep the programmes updated and relevant to the current trends in the field.
