UiTM Records Exceptional Accomplishments in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

12 March 2025 – UiTM continues reinforcing its global standing as 21 subjects across four broad subjects are listed in the QS World University Rankings (WUR) by Subject 2025, announced today. This achievement surpasses the target of 20 subjects listed under the UiTM2025 Strategic Plan and strengthens the university’s commitment to academic excellence. This year, 1747 institutions have been ranked across 55 subjects in five broad areas. 

One of the most significant achievements is the inclusion of English Language and Literature and Mathematics in the rankings for the first time in UiTM’s history, securing positions in the 251-300 and 501-600 bands, respectively. Additionally, Materials Science has re-entered the rankings in the 401-550 band after being listed five years ago. Overall, four subjects have improved: Education, Agriculture and Forestry, Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy.  

UiTM continues to demonstrate remarkable performance in several key subjects. Notably, the Petroleum Engineering subject has maintained its position among the top 150 in the world for five consecutive years since 2021. This achievement is a testament to UiTM’s pre-eminence in research and innovation in Petroleum Engineering at the international level. Hospitality and Leisure Management is listed in the 101-150 range, while the Art and Design subject has maintained its position in the top 200 for two years in a row. 

Other subjects that have successfully retained their rankings include Architecture/Built Environment; Accounting and Finance; Pharmacy and Pharmacology; Law; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering; and Computer Science and Information Systems. As for the broad subjects, UiTM continues to be ranked in four key areas: Social Sciences and Management and Arts and Humanities (ranked 401-450), Engineering and Technology (ranked 451-500), and Life Sciences and Medicine (ranked 501-550). 

UiTM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin regards the achievements as meaningful, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan. He emphasised that this recognition reflects Warga UiTM’s unwavering commitment to fostering robust academic and research. The year 2025 marks a transitional phase for the UiTM2030 Strategic Plan. Aligned with the aspiration ‘Globally Renowned, Locally Rooted’, UiTM is steadfast to fostering global competitiveness by enhancing academic achievements, expanding strategic collaborations, and ensuring a significant impact on society and the nation.
