MERU, 5 December 2024 – Sekolah KAFA Integrasi Imam Al Ghazali recently welcomed final-year undergraduates from College of Computing, Informatics, and Mathematics (KPPIM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, for the Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society (SULAM) initiative. This collaboration provided UiTM students with an invaluable opportunity to step out of their comfort zones and gain meaningful insights into community engagement beyond their academic environment.
Over 100 Year 6 students from Sekolah KAFA Integrasi Imam Al Ghazali participated in the event which highlighted the positive and negative aspects of social media through a series of fun and interactive activities. The program which was organised by 80 undergraduates from the Intelligent Systems Engineering (CDCS259) and Computer Networks (CDCS255) program under the stewardship of Prof. Madya Dr. Natrah Abdullah and Cik Wan Athirah binti Wan Endut. The program offers hands-on experiences that facilitate students’ understanding of digital concepts. Furthermore, it provided great opportunities to engage in student community service, addressing a number of various challenges, and promoting social responsibilities. Overall, the event was a meaningful blend of education and community engagement.
Various activities were done on this event where UiTM students actively engaged and entertained KAFA students through various games, namely, “Typing Race,” “Spot the Phish”, “Explore the Internet,” “Spot the Scam,” “Virtual Reality”, and more. The activities were designed to provide participants with hands-on experiences of social responsibilities in real-life situations. Moreover, the activities also promote group work activity, communication skills and encouraging responsible digital use of technology.
Highly favourable feedback was received from the community about the program. “This program helps kids learn about the proper use of the internet and how to stay safe online,” shared Puan Aisyah, a parent. She further added, “The fun and instructive activities left a lasting impression on the students.”
The event was officiated by Prof. Madya Ts. Dr. Nur Atiqah Sia Abdullah, the Dean of Industry, Community, and Alumni Network (ICAN) at KPPIM. Also in attendance was Puan Noor Hazirah binti Haji Ibrahim, the Curriculum Secretary for KAFA Integrasi Imam Al Ghazali.
The SULAM 2024 program exemplifies UiTM’s commitment to community empowerment through volunteer activities. By applying their knowledge practically, students contributed to enhancing the living standards of the local community. These efforts align with the aspirations of Malaysia’s Madani vision and support the Fourth and Eleventh Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education and Sustainable Cities and Communities.
