APB UiTM Perlis Highlights Politeness Strategies for Better Communication

18 October 2024, Arau – The Academy of Language Studies (APB) UiTM Cawangan Perlis successfully organised a webinar on Politeness Strategies in Communication last Friday. 96 participants which included students and staff of UiTM Perlis and others joined the online program.  Among the objectives of the webinar was to provide a platform for students and others to have dialogues and exchange their ideas and opinions to facilitate their learning and also impart knowledge on politeness strategies in everyday communication. In addition, participants could learn the good values of being polite such as tolerance, respect, and dignity as these make them become better individuals in life.

Various topics on “Politeness Strategies in Communication” were highlighted by the two invited speakers. The first speaker, Dr Nazira Osman who is currently the Head of Learning Centre, APB delivered her speech on politeness and impoliteness strategies in the digital era. She also spoke on the relation of these strategies to social media usage, particularly emphasising teenagers and the younger generation. Another speaker, Dr Marcia Jane who is also a senior lecturer at APB shared her experiences on the politeness concept where polite communication is a key to smooth interaction and collaboration between individuals and in group work.

This program was conducted as part of the Kursus Kemahiran Bahasa dan Pakej Khas initiatives. The program has benefitted participants as a lot of input has been shared by the speakers on communicating politely as being polite is essential in human interaction.
