Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, July 9, 2023 — The Community Programme titled “Diabetes: Komplikasi dan Pemakanan,” funded under the CE-SIR grant, took place on July 9, 2023, from 9 AM to 1 PM at Surau Al-Ikhwan. This collaborative initiative brought together residents from Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh and Bukit Rahman Putra, attracting a total of 50 participants eager to learn more about diabetes management.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Noor Fahitah, who set the stage for a day filled with informative sessions. A panel of esteemed speakers included Dr. Siti Norsyafika from the Department of Pharmacology, along with Dr. Mazapuspavina and Dr. Ilham Ameera, both experienced Primary Care Physicians.
The primary objective of the programme was to enlighten participants about diabetes and its complications. Presentations covered how carbohydrates are converted into glucose and the significant effects glucose has on insulin levels, as well as the critical role insulin plays in regulating glucose within the body. Participants gained insights into how understanding these processes is essential for effective diabetes management.
The programme also introduced the concept of a low-carb diet as a strategy to control blood sugar levels and reduce elevated insulin levels. This practical guidance aimed to empower participants to make informed dietary choices that could significantly impact their health.
The event concluded with an engaging group discussion and a question-and-answer session, allowing participants to seek clarification and share their experiences.
