Shah Alam, May 22, 2024 – The Arabic Debate Team from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), comprising students from the Academy of Language Studies (APB) and the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS) in Shah Alam, Malaysia, has embarked on a journey to represent the nation in the 7th International University Debate Championship (IUDC) held in Doha, Qatar from May 24th to May 29th, 2024.
Departing at 3:00 AM on May 22nd, the debating participants, namely Farid Danish Noor Hamidi, Mohammed Yahya Mohd Zakaria, Ahmad Zainuddin Hisyam, and Muhammad Ali Muhd Radzi, accompanied by Dr. Mohd Akashah Mohamad Yusof as the accompanying lecturer/coach, are set to compete on an international stage.
Providing moral support at the airport were esteemed faculty members including Associate Professor Dr. Azri Bhari (Deputy Dean of ACIS), Dr. Muhamad Zaidi Zakaria (Deputy Dean of APB), Dr. Mohamad Nor Amin Samsun Baharun (BA Coordinator), Dr. Lutfi (Advisor/Coach), Dr. Fahed Maromar (Advisor/Coach), and Ustaz Ahmad Wan Rahman (Advisor/Coach).
This marks UiTM’s first participation in this prestigious global competition, a testament to their commitment to excellence and the elevation of the university’s reputation internationally. With four Malaysian teams qualifying out of a total of 28 teams, including representatives from UIAM, UKM, UiTM, and UPSI, this endeavor showcases Malaysia’s competence in the field of competitive debating.
