Sep 17, SHAH ALAM – Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS) UiTM – as the main organizer, with collaborative partners NAMA Foundation, Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA), Zakat, Sadaqah & Waqf Division UiTM, Koperasi Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, Center for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN, UPM), Centre for Islamic Philanthropy and Social Finance (CIPSF) UiTM Melaka, BAZNAS Centre for Strategic Studies (Puskas BAZNAS), Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) and Ikatan Ahli Ekonomi Islam Indonesia (IAEI).
This conference was held as a platform to address the different perspective of the zakat, waqf and Islamic philanthropy, as well as the potential of contemporary philanthropy activities to comply with Islamic requirements. Also, this conference is expected to have a positive effect on the various related stakeholders, including the society, Islamic institutions, academicians, researchers and so on.
The one-day seminar of ZAWFI 2020 involved with more than 130 papers with 124 presenters from academicians, researchers, Islamic scholars, Islamic institution officers and higher learning institution students from different countries, including Malaysia and Indonesia. There are various types of key contents for ZAWFI 2020, namely a welcoming speech by the Dean of the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS) and the Dean of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB). The opening speech was delivered by Emeritus Professor Datuk Ir Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). While Dr.Sri Muliyani Indrawati delivered the first Keynote Speech, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia / Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) with the title “The Future of Technology in Philanthropy” and followed by the second Keynote Speech by Datuk Mohd Daud Bakar.
