SHAH ALAM, 12 JUNE 2026 – In a continuous effort to bridge academia with industry practices, the Faculty of Built Environment (FBE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, in collaboration with the UiTM Samarahan Sarawak Branch, successfully organized a hybrid collaborative teaching webinar on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
The webinar, titled “Enhancing Project Performance Through Value Management (VM) in MARA Physical Development Projects,” was specifically tailored for the Value Management (BQS668) course. It brought together 67 Bachelor of Quantity Surveying (Honours) students from both the Shah Alam and Samarahan campuses, providing them with a dynamic platform to engage with high-level industry practices.
Conducted in person at FBE, UiTM Shah Alam, and broadcast virtually to Sarawak, the collaborative learning initiative sought to expose students to the contemporary responsibilities of quantity surveyors and value management practitioners in the construction sector.
The session was delivered by an esteemed UiTM alumnus, Mr. Faizal Azwandy Norzaman, who currently serves as the Head of Quantity Surveyor at the Department of Construction and Maintenance, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).
Drawing on his 20 years of robust professional expertise, Mr. Faizal shared practical applications of the VM framework in major government physical development projects valued at RM70 million or more. He seamlessly bridged theoretical textbook principles with real-world execution, focusing on the official four VM Life Cycle Stages: strategic value assessment, value engineering, and value review alongside the mandated 6-Phase Workshop Job Plan.
“Collaborative initiatives like this yield significant benefits for the community, particularly in enriching the academic and professional growth of future quantity surveyors,” stated Mr. Faizal, expressing his enthusiasm for giving back to his alma mater.
Beyond structural function analysis and innovative decision-making strategies, the industry lecture provided students with real success stories meant to inspire, motivate, and highlight promising career paths available upon graduation.
