UiTM Permatang Pauh and Sunway Medical Centre Strengthen Curriculum Alignment

PERMATANG PAUH, 7 January 2026 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Pulau Pinang, Permatang Pauh Campus, has further solidified its strategic partnership with Sunway Medical Centre (SMC) Penang through a successful two-day collaborative teaching and training programme held on 29 and 30 December 2025.

The initiative, a joint venture between SMC Penang’s Food and Beverage Department and the Foodservice Department of UiTM’s Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, focused on bridging the gap between academic theory and clinical foodservice operations.

The highlight of the event was the return of Ms. Amysyazana, a distinguished UiTM alumna of the Diploma in Foodservice Management programme, who served as the guest trainer. Currently a Supervisor in the Diet Assistant Department at SMC Penang, Ms. Amysyazana’s return to her alma mater signifies the strength of the university’s alumni network. She shared her extensive expertise in private-sector institutional foodservice—a career path that began during her formative internship years—providing students with invaluable insights into the future of foodservice management.

Beyond student engagement, the programme also functioned as a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) session for faculty lecturers. The collaborative teaching provided a platform for SMC Penang to offer formal feedback and industry-led input regarding the current curriculum. This ensures that the university’s syllabus remains robust, industry-relevant, and aligned with the evolving demands of the healthcare foodservice labour market.

The two-day schedule was strategically designed to maximise impact, beginning with Day 1 observations of current practices, followed by Day 2’s hands-on sessions and recommendations for operational improvements. This immersive approach allowed for immediate knowledge transfer and practical application of industry standards.

UiTM Permatang Pauh extends its deepest appreciation to the management of Sunway Medical Centre Penang for their unwavering support. This partnership reaffirms the university’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also industry-ready and highly adaptable to modern professional landscapes.
