UiTM Campuses Unite to Ignite STEM Interest Among SKBTM Students via Solar Tech and Robotics

SIMPANG AMPAT,  26 January 2026 – In a powerful display of inter-campus collaboration, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam and Permatang Pauh recently joined forces to organize the “Bengkel Teknologi Kejuruteraan dan Elektronik” at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Tasek Mutiara (SKBTM), Pulau Pinang on 9 December 2025.

The program successfully engaged 83 students from Standards 4 to 6. This initiative was executed as a Service Learning Malaysia-University for Society (SULAM) and Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP), aimed at bridging the gap between textbook theory and real-world engineering applications.

The workshop featured a unique synergy of expertise, involving 20 UiTM student volunteers. This included 10 Mechanical Engineering students from UiTM Shah Alam and 10 members of the UiTMCPP Robotics Club, specializing in electrical and electronics backgrounds. Despite their different technical ideologies, the students united to deliver a high-impact learning experience for the younger generation.

During the session, the primary school participants were introduced to the fundamentals of Renewable Energy. Under the guidance of UiTM mentors, the children built their own mini solar-powered cars, culminating in a friendly race that tested their designs, problem-solving skills, and creativity.

Adding to the excitement, the UiTMCPP Robotics Club conducted a live demonstration using NI myRIO, providing the students with a rare glimpse into robot development, sensor application, and basic coding.

The event was officiated by the Headmistress of SKBTM, Pn. Che Paridah binti Bahari, who lauded UiTM’s dedication. “This program provides our pupils with an inspiring look at the future of technology, and we are grateful for the expertise shared by both the students and lecturers,” she stated.

The success of the program was supervised by a dedicated team of lecturers: Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Bulan Abdullah  from UiTM Shah Alam, alongside Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Azlan Othman, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Salwa Mohamad, Ir. Dr. Rozan Mohd Nor, and Dr. Belinda Anak Lada from UiTM Permatang Pauh.

This collaboration reflects UiTM’s “One UiTM” spirit—where diverse talents from different campuses work together to uplift local communities and cultivate the next generation of STEM innovators.
