MERU, 22 November 2025 – Students from the Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons.) Information Systems Engineering and Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons.) Computer Networks programmes, Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, successfully implemented the SULAM 2025 Programme: Digital Heroes in collaboration with the Kampung Budiman community. The programme, held at Dewan Balai Raya Kampung Budiman, was supervised by Miss Wan Athirah Wan Endut and Madam Saidatul Rahah Hamidi.
Organised under the national framework of Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society (SULAM), this initiative aimed to strengthen university–community engagement through applied learning. Adopting the theme “Digital Heroes”, the programme focused on enhancing digital awareness and introducing technology‑driven solutions to benefit residents of Kampung Budiman.
The event began with welcoming remarks by the Head of Kampung Budiman, Tok Imran Bin Kairon, who officially launched the programme. It was later officiated by the Dean of FSKM, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Norjansalika Janom, who witnessed the unveiling of the Kampung Budiman Website and e‑Aduan System—digital platforms developed by students from the Information Systems Engineering programme. The event was also attended by Prof. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Zia Ul Saufie, Deputy Dean of Academic and International, along with FSKM’s top management.

According to Pn. Netty binti Ah Hiyer, a committee member of Kampung Budiman, the digital systems introduced through SULAM offer meaningful solutions for the villagers. “The website and e‑Aduan platform are exactly what we need to improve information access and simplify issue reporting within the community,” she said.
A key highlight of the programme was the Awareness Talk on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT, which emphasised the role of AI as a supportive tool that enhances daily life while promoting responsible usage and digital ethics. This session successfully increased understanding of AI among participants, particularly rural communities with limited exposure to emerging technologies.
In addition, a variety of interactive digital booths, mini tech‑based activities, and educational games were organised. These included guided Roblox gameplay designed to foster creativity and teamwork among youth, as well as a Reading Corner to encourage literacy and knowledge sharing.
SULAM 2025 strengthened the partnership between UiTM and the Kampung Budiman community by providing meaningful volunteer involvement and knowledge transfer. The programme enabled UiTM students to apply academic knowledge in real‑world settings, supporting community development and improving residents’ quality of life. It also aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education) and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, while upholding the principles of Malaysia Madani through inclusive participation and community empowerment.
