AIoTIE 2025 Strengthens Innovation and International Collaboration in AI and IoT

PERMATANG PAUH, PENANG – 9 September 2025 – The Machine Learning Research Group (MLRG), in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Penang Branch; Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia; UiTM Technoventure; and MIMOS Service Sdn Bhd, successfully hosted the 2nd Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things International Innovation Expo (AIoTIE 2025). Held virtually from 18 August to 9 September 2025, the event marked a significant milestone in global innovation and academic-industry collaboration.

AIoTIE 2025 brought together participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, showcasing 109 innovative product entries powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Of these, 98 entries were submitted by higher education institutions and industry players, while 10 came from schools. After a rigorous evaluation process, 80 products were shortlisted for the final round, which featured poster and video presentations.

An international panel of judges from Malaysia, Japan, Nigeria, Indonesia, Turkiye, and Canada assessed the entries based on novelty, originality, uniqueness, and impact on research and industry. Top innovations were honored with Diamond, Platinum, Titanium, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) received the Diamond Award in the Higher Learning Institution and Industry category for its “Umrah Chatbot System Using Natural Language Processing (NLP)”. Sekolah Kebangsaan Abdullah, Tangkak, Johor, earned the School Category Diamond Award for “WildAlertAI”.

Other notable winners included:

  • Platinum Award: “Mini Aquarium Water Indicator” (SK Pauh Jaya, Penang) and “PVNET” (UniMAP)
  • Titanium Award: “ECO-AQUATICS” (MRSM Arau, Perlis) and “AI-Enhanced DBT” (UiTM Penang)

Expo Chairman Ir. Dr. Mohd Firdaus Abdullah emphasized that AIoTIE 2025 has become a vital platform for fostering innovation, promoting international collaboration, and encouraging knowledge exchange across borders. He noted the event’s role in advancing AI and IoT technologies for academic and industrial applications.

Looking ahead, organizers anticipate broader international participation in AIoTIE 2026, with expanded engagement from global institutions and new opportunities for collaborative research. This initiative reflects UiTM’s commitment to innovation and global outreach, in line with the UiTM 2030 Strategic Plan which champions inclusivity, excellence, and impactful research.
