The “Engineering Day Festival (EDF)” program was held on 7th June 2023, with a concept focused on academics, community service, and science. The program targeted high school students in Form 3, 4, or 5 at SMK Sungai Ramal, Kajang. Its primary aim was to provide students with a detailed and effective exposure to the Civil Engineering course at a Public University. The program was particularly important as these students were on the verge of choosing their fields of study in both secondary school and university, and the EDF aimed to help them make informed decisions while also igniting their interest in the field of science and technology.
Additionally, the “Engineering Day Festival (EDF)” program aimed to develop students’ soft skills and enhance their creativity through various competitions and games that involved high-level thinking, group collaboration, and communication.
The program was organized by students of ECC589 Engineers in Society, School of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering and it sought to improve the education, creativity, and innovation of students at SMK Sungai Ramal, Kajang.
This EDF program involved 30 students from UiTM, with 6 mini-groups, along with 67 students from SMK Sungai Ramal. Additionally, there were 7 VIPs present, comprising invited industry panels, the school principal, and accompanying lecturers from UiTM.
During the EDF, several mini-programs were conducted, including:
1) “Building Roads to My Heart!”
2) “We Will ROCK You”
3) “Prototype Bridge Structure Building Competition”
4) “Road Safety Exposure”
5) “Solid Waste Management”
6) “Wood as a Sustainable Building Material”
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including industry professionals like Ir. Aufazikri Bin Ahmad Barzain from JKR Hulu Langat, Ts. Dr. Rizati Hamidun from MIROS and Mohamad Faizal Bin Ishak from SWCorp. Kudos to the organizers and special thanks to Tn. Haji Abdul Ghaffar, the Principal of SMK Sungai Ramal, and lecturers Ts. Siti Nurulhuda Binti Mohd Imran and Prof. Ir. Dr. Amnorzahira Binti Amir from UiTM for making this day truly inspiring. Together, these important guests, including school teachers, lecturers from the College of Engineering, and industry representatives, contributed to the success and significance of the Engineering Day Festival, inspiring and guiding the students towards a future in engineering and technology.
